Blue Economy Analysis in Belize
Description of project
The project, commissioned by UNIDO, supports the Government of Belize in developing a comprehensive strategy for a sustainable and inclusive Blue Economy (BE). Recognizing Belize’s unique marine and coastal resources, the initiative seeks to enhance economic growth while ensuring environmental sustainability and social equity.
The assignment involves conducting a strategic diagnostic of the Blue Economy landscape, including sectors such as fisheries, aquaculture, coastal and marine tourism, maritime logistics, shipbuilding, and marine conservation zones. The analysis integrates key cross-cutting themes like climate vulnerability, ecological sustainability, gender inclusion, and institutional capacity.
Services provided
Aninver delivered a full strategic analysis of Belize’s Blue Economy through:
- Inception Phase: Kick-off meeting, stakeholder mapping, and desk review
- Field Mission: Conducted site visits, interviews, and a national stakeholder workshop to validate findings and engage key actors.
- Situational Assessment: Mapped blue sectors (e.g. fisheries, tourism), reviewed policy and regulatory frameworks, and benchmarked with peer countries.
- Constraints Analysis: Identified legal, institutional, environmental, and financial barriers, as well as market failures and bottlenecks.
- Strategic Recommendations: Developed actionable, evidence-based policy and investment proposals with clear role assignments.
- Sectoral Case Studies: Selected and analyzed two key value chains
