Technical & Commercial Due Diligence: Drinking-Water Operator – Kenya
Description of project
The assignment consists of conducting an independent Technical and Commercial Due Diligence for an impact fund, aimed at validating a potential investment opportunity for the impact fund in a Kenya-based drinking-water operator producing and selling safe water through purification plants and an expanding network of outlets across multiple counties.
Services provided
- Reviewed operational documentation and assessed compliance with Kenyan requirements and the impact fund’s required international standards (WHO/IFC), including targeted gap analysis.
- Performed independent water quality sampling/testing and assessed water quality monitoring, QA/QC, and emergency response systems.
- Evaluated technical risks linked to water sources and abstraction sustainability (including hydrogeological considerations) and reviewed key E&S / OHS risk areas relevant to the impact fund’s ESG mandates.
- Assessed the scalability and resilience of the business model (growth assumptions, cost/revenue drivers, tariff adequacy, asset lifecycle needs, and organisational capacity), and produced actionable recommendations.
