Description of project

Commissioned by the EBRD under the EU-funded VCCP, this diagnostic study aimed to enhance the competitiveness and export potential of SMEs in Morocco and Tunisia's natural cosmetics and medicinal plants sectors. The project delivered a comprehensive value chain and regulatory analysis, benchmarked local industries against global peers, and developed strategic action plans to increase value-added production and market access. The assignment concluded with public-private validation workshops and the facilitation of business-matching opportunities in both countries.

Services provided
  • Developed the research methodology and selection criteria to identify priority value chains specifically within the natural cosmetics and medicinal plants sectors.
  • Conducted field visits and interviews in Morocco and Tunisia with SMEs, local producers, and industry associations to map industry constraints.
  • Formulated sector-specific diagnostics and benchmarking against global peers to evaluate the export potential and regulatory frameworks of both countries.
  • Identified investment and technical assistance needs, establishing concrete export KPIs to scale up value-added production.
  • Organized and facilitated public-private validation workshops in Casablanca and Tunis to build business-matching opportunities and commercial linkages.
